Session 1
Session one is about being informed. We talk about questions for your provider that might be helpful, and what questions you might have asked that have provided useful information. This class also has information about many of the tests and procedures that occur leading up to the end of pregnancy and upcoming labor. We talk about policies the hospital has in place that can affect your birth. We also discuss induction, and what may be involved with the process.
Session 2
In session to we briefly talk about the history of birth, the hormones involved in birth, epidurals, various ways of relieving pain, doulas, and the importance of relaxation during labor.
Session 3
In session three we talk all about the emotions, sensations, feelings, and physical signs of the first stage of labor which includes pre-labor, early labor, active labor and transition, and go over some tools for partners to use in labor.
Session 4
Session four starts with pushing, or the second stage of labor. We will talk about what is happening physically during this time. We will practice pushing positions and discuss their varying benefits. We then move onto the delivery of the placenta, or the third stage of labor, as well as some of the things that happen immediately postpartum.
Session 5
During session five we talk about C-Sections. Every labor looks different, we talk about the variations of labor and how your labor may look. We also look over some affirmations that can be useful during labor.
Session 6
In our last class we wrap up with birth plans, go more deeply into the postpartum period, and some routine newborn tests and procedures.
